Enrolling in a course
Once you've signed up and paid for a course, you're officially on the list. However, in some cases, instructors set minimum enrollment thresholds to ensure the best possible experience; in that case, the course itself is not confirmed until that threshold has been met. (You can find threshold information on the course page.)
If a course doesn't reach the minimum, we'll reach out a few days before the start date and refund 100% of your money. You can also monitor the status of the course by creating an account after payment and looking at the "My Bookings" page.
Payment
Course fees are listed per course, in euros, and cover every session. In some cases, additional materials may be recommended/necessary but those will be specified in the course description.
Card payments are processed securely through PayComet; we never see or store your card details.
Cancellations & refunds
We know plans change. Here's how refunds work, depending on how much notice you give us. Please note that all notice must be given via written communication to thestudio@backstorybookshop.com.
Cancellation policy for all courses except Open Sessions (see below):
- 14 or more calendar days before your course starts: full refund.
- 7–13 days before: 80% refund.
- Less than 7 days before and once the course has started: we're no longer able to offer refunds.
Cancellation policy for Open Sessions:
Open sessions (e.g., "Writing Circles") work a little differently. Because they're held on a drop-in basis and are lower commitment by design, they run on their own, simpler rule:
- 24 hours or more before a session: just let us know and we'll move you to another session — no charge.
- Less than 24 hours before: that session is forfeited.
If we have to cancel a course, you'll get a full refund, no questions asked.
Because our instructors count on income from their courses, we're unable to offer partial refunds based on missed sessions.

Conduct and the space
We want The Studio to feel like the Third Place it's meant to be — a safe, comfortable, welcoming space for everyone using it. Therefore, we ask that you're considerate of the other rooms and people around you, and we reserve the right to end a session or membership if someone's conduct affects the safety or comfort of others.
Backstory isn't responsible for personal belongings left in the space, so please keep an eye on your things.
Your data
